On Monday 11 October we celebrated Black History Month in a whole school assembly.
The assembly was led by the Head Girl team who focused on key individuals whose stories can illuminate different aspects of Black History. The Sixth Form Senior Prefect Team then presented two figures they had researched and discussed their plans to promote Black History in the school.
The two figures focused on by the main school Head Girl team were John Blanke - a trumpeter in the court of Henry VII and Henry VIII and also Claudia Jones who established the Notting Hill Carnival. The Sixth Form team then discussed Marsha P Johnson and Baroness Lawrence - figures from more recent History who reflect the diversity of Black History.
To celebrate Black History Month the Head Girl team are planning to create a display and include key Black figures in the banda.
